Assignment #1 Part 2

Maker Studios

Maker Studios inc. is an American network comprised of multiple channels. It was founded in 2009 by Lisa Donovan, Danny Zappin, Scott Katz, Kassem G, Shay Carl, Ben Donovan, and Philip DeFranco. Early on Maker Studios got its start by producing Youtube videos with other channels like Timothy DeLaGhetto and Epic Rap Battles of History. Maker Studios is also well known for its sub-network Polaris. Polaris is the production home to several talented and not so talented Youtubers who focus specifically on video games. This sub-network is what brings viewers everything from gaming critiques and reviews, to let's plays, to music about video games. Most major video game channels on Youtube are signed to Polaris: PewDiePie, Markiplier, TotalBiscuit, Angry Joe, Jontron and the Game Grumps to name a few. In June 2012 Maker Studios boasted over 1,000 partnered Youtube channels that attained over 1.1 billion views for that month. Furthermore these channels gained 90 million subscribers as well. Maker is even partnered with actual celebrities like Robert De Niro and Snoop Lion. On March 24th, 2014 Maker Studios sold itself to The Walt Disney Company for a cool $500 million with the price increasing to $950 million if the company continued to earn projected profits. This venture essentially cemented Maker Studios as the most powerful Youtube network.

Rooster Teeth Productions

Rooster Teeth is a video production company based in Austin Texas. On April 1st 2003 the company was founded by five nerds who realized the awesome power of the internet and how it could change the world with its ability to distribute content to anyone with a connection in any part of the world. On October 4th, 2004 the company launched their official community and social networking site Roosterteeth.com. The website served two primary functions. Firstly it was a platform for Rooster Teeth to distribute its various forms of content like its hit series Red vs. Blue as well as various live action comedy sketches. Secondly it was a place where fans could interact with both the company's staff and each other. Rooster Teeth essentially set the standard for video streaming websites as well as independent content creation and distribution through the internet. The first episode of Red vs. Blue went viral with over 100,000 downloads. From there it snowballed out of control. As of Rooster Teeth's 10 year anniversary their site has over 1.5 million active members. The company also posts all of their videos to their youtube channel that has over 7 million subscribers. The Rooster Teeth facebook page has over 664k likes and their twitter has over 523k followers. In the 11 years that Rooster Teeth has existed it has grown from a 5 man company to an impressive 85 animators, editors, cinematographers, writers, graphic designers, and gamers.
